Net Metering for Less than 100 KW Systems

Net Metering is the process in which solar panels or other renewable energy generators are connected to a public-utility power grid and surplus power is transferred onto the grid, allowing customers to offset the cost of power drawn from the utility.  Net Metering is available with the City of Monett.  Call (417) 235-3763 for more information.

About Net Metering

When you install solar panels to offset part or all of your electricity from the City of Monett, it is important to go through the correct process so everyone stays safe.  Before you begin construction, the Net Metering Application must be submitted and you will need to get a building permit from the Building and Zoning Department.  Both will need to be approved before construction can start.  The City will inspect and test the installation before it will be allowed to be tied into the system.

Net metering is the process that measures the amount of electricity you used from the City of Monett and the amount of excess energy the City of Monett received from you during the same billing period.

Remember, you will use the energy your solar panels generate inside your home or business up to the point that your solar panels are generating more power than you need at any time.  At that point, the excess energy is put back on the electric grid and you get credit for it.
